Student Support

Ensuring all Angels can meet their goals.

At East High School, we believe that every student should have equal access to academic and extracurricular opportunities, regardless of financial circumstances. The East Angel Foundation (EAF) and the Student Assistance Fund (SAF) collaborate to eliminate barriers such as food insecurity, transportation challenges, and financial hardship, enabling all students to fully engage in their education and school activities.

Student Assistance Fund (SAF)

The Student Assistance Fund (SAF) aims to create equal access for ALL students to the academic and extracurricular activities offered at East High School. Providing essential resources ensures that economic hardship does not hinder a student’s potential.

The Need

Despite evolving demographics, East High School remains economically diverse. Currently, 32.5% of our student body—805 out of 2,476 students—are financially disadvantaged. Additionally, 344 students (14%) have physical or health conditions that may significantly impact their learning ability. These challenges should not define a student’s future, and EAF is committed to providing support where needed most.

Students and Parents: How We Can Help

If you need financial assistance with any of the following, we are here to help:

  • Class and participation fees
  • Books and classroom learning materials
  • Leadership opportunities
  • AP test fees

While we do not cover hotel stays, extracurricular transportation, or sports fees, we can help connect you to additional resources. To request assistance, please contact us at eaststudentassist@gmail.com or visit east.dpsk12.org/students/student-assistance.

Angel Packs

EAF proudly supports Angel Packs and the East Pantry, programs that ensure students and their families access nutritious food. Free, non-perishable meal packs and fresh fruit are available daily in the nurse’s office, every Friday after school in the Commons, and by the school’s front door. Parents can also visit The Pantry in the Commons once a month, which offers non-perishable foods, fresh produce, bread, meat, and toiletries.

A Legacy of Support

The Angel Packs and Pantry programs were founded in 2010 by EHS parent Margaret Berzins, who saw a need for students to have access to meals over weekends. With the support of the Food Bank of the Rockies, We Don’t Waste, and EAF, the initiative has grown significantly:

  • Angel Packs: Over 5,000 packs delivered, averaging 400 per year
  • The Pantry: More than 2,000 families served, averaging 200 per year

Community donations and dedicated volunteers continue to sustain these programs. Students and parents are encouraged to get involved and support this vital initiative.

No student should choose between their education and basic needs at East High School. EAF and SAF stand as support pillars, ensuring every student has the resources to thrive.

Together, we can break barriers and build futures.
